Carl Jarrell,at age 26 in 1939, standing in front of his store and post office at Dry Creek. The store is the oldest continuously operating retail business in Raleigh County. Quentin Barrett, long-time resident of Coal River and now residing in Beckley, says his grandfather R.E. Barrett, opened the store and post office in 1877. Quentin also says the first name for the post office was “Jupiter.”
The store was purchased in recent years by two Marsh Fork grads, Charlie Jarrell (No relation to Rock Creek merchant Charlie Jarrell) (Now deceased) and his wife Carol Darlington Jarrell.
